Job Position:-Civil Designer – Utilities (Gas, Water, Telecom, OSP)/ Civil Engineer

Location: Orlando, FL

Job Summary:

The Civil Designer – Utilities will be responsible for assisting in the design, drafting, and development of civil engineering projects related to gas, water, telecommunications, and other utility infrastructure. This role involves verifying right-of-way (ROW) constraints, utilizing AutoCAD and GIS tools, and collaborating with engineering and permitting teams to ensure accurate and compliant designs.

Key Responsibilities:

Utility Design & Drafting:

• Assist in creating detailed designs for gas, water, telecom (OSP), and other utility projects.
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and other CAD software to develop construction drawings and layouts.
• Prepare base maps, alignments, and profiles for utility placements.
• Perform basic civil engineering calculations, including grading and utility placement.

Right-of-Way (ROW) & Permitting Verification:

• Research and verify ROW, easements, property boundaries, and utility corridors.
• Assist in preparing permit applications and supporting documentation for DOT, local municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
• Work with engineers to address jurisdictional requirements and design constraints.

Field & Data Collection:

• Assist in conducting field surveys to gather data for design and permitting.
• Work with survey and GIS teams to validate existing utility locations.
• Utilize aerial imagery, LiDAR, and GIS tools to analyze site conditions.

Project Coordination & Support:

• Work closely with senior engineers, drafters, and project managers to ensure designs meet project specifications.
• Coordinate with utility providers and stakeholders to obtain design approvals.
• Assist in reviewing and revising construction plans based on stakeholder feedback.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain organized records of project designs, ROW research, and permit applications.
• Prepare as-built drawings and updates to utility maps.
• Generate project reports and summaries as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education & Experience:
• Associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in civil design, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience with gas, water, telecom, or other utility projects preferred.

Technical Proficiency:

• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS platforms (ESRI, QGIS, or similar).
• Understanding of ROW research, easements, and permitting processes.
• Basic knowledge of utility construction methods and civil engineering principles.

Other Skills:

• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and engineering specifications.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in both office and field environments as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with DOT permitting and ROW acquisition processes.
• Experience with LiDAR, survey data, and as-built documentation.
• Exposure to utility coordination and conflict resolution in multi-utility projects.

Work Environment:

• Hybrid of office work and occasional fieldwork for data verification.
• May require travel to project sites for inspections and surveys.
