Job Description
Schedule: Mon - Fri 12pm to 6pm, with 30 minute meal break. Position is on site at our pathology lab location. Support the daily administrative operation of the Pathology department. Responsible for maintaining, evaluating, and providing medical pathology documentation for assigned physicians to meet the needs of Vancouver Clinic. Will solve reporting problems that arise and are unique to anatomic pathology. Can effectively communicate with physicians, staff, and referral labs. Understands the processes in anatomic pathology to ensure effective communication. Tracks pathology slides / blocks and ensures that all Pathology documents, records, and slides are stored in accordance with all applicable regulations. Will maintain the QC and QA documentation for anatomic pathology. Prepares correspondence with other internal departments and outside facilities for Pathologists. Confirm billing codes in pathology cases against those listed in EPIC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Transcribe assigned dictation of pathology reports dictated by Pathologists.
- Review grossing dictation/description reporting
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of pathology reports
- Completes monthly Quality Control reviews of Pathology Coordinator tasks
- Assign cases for Quality Control Review to pathologists bi-weekly. Record completed documentation.
- Provides lab reporting for turn-around-time and proficiency testing.
- Oversees shipping and non-technical supplies
- Performs internal pre-authorization process by submitting authorization requests to referral team
- Organize and provide reports on a timely basis to the Laboratory Administrator as requested
- Assist in onboarding new staff
- Confirm billing codes on pathology against those listed in patient charts in EPIC, problem solve any billing errors and provide assistance for Pathologists to identify billing codes, as appropriate.
- Performs multiple office functions including answering phones, providing test results to physicians by phone or fax, coordinating cases for specialty conferences.
- Manage sending / receiving slides / tissue blocks to other laboratories for review. Track outstanding specimen slides and tissue blocks for retrieval.
- File test requests, final reports, and department records.
- Provides communication between pathologists, physicians and client services, as necessary.
- Assists management in implementing new processes and workflows.
- Additional assignments as delegated by Manager or Administrative Director.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Ability to perform accurate keyboarding skills at a minimum of 50 - 60 wpm.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Minimum of associate's degree in biology or related field preferred
- Medical transcription / reporting experience required
- Pathology transcription experience preferred
- Billing / Coding experience preferred
- Minimum two years of experience in a Clinical or Anatomic Pathology Lab strongly preferred
- EPIC Beaker experience preferred
- Basic Microsoft application experience required
Pay Range:
$22.98 - $32.17
